Job Description:
SummaryFacilities Planning and Management (FP&M) at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for a Project Engineer III within FP&M's Utility Services Division.
The Project Engineer III provides engineering and operations support, along with project & construction management services, focused on the University's vast energy production and distribution systems (high pressure steam, condensate, chilled water).
Other engineering aspects may include equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, and chillers, with cross-training opportunities associated with domestic water, sanitary sewer, storm water management and natural gas systems.
Duties will include analyzing and troubleshooting utility systems and equipment; planning and managing utility projects; and coordinating contractors and design consultants in pursuit of seamless and highly efficient energy delivery to the Iowa State campus.
The position will also be responsible for documenting distribution systems and design standards while providing technical support to Utility Services' maintenance and distribution staff.
The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills; strong organizational and analytical skills; ability to organize / coordinate work within and between projects; and ability / willingness to learn and understand complex utility systems and equipment.

Facilities Planning & Management (FP&M) is an organization that is dedicated to the maintenance and enhancement of Iowa State University, one of the nation's leading educational and agricultural institutes.

Example of Duties Perform studies and assessments related to distribution system efficiency, reliability, capacity and expansion.
Provide technical expertise and engineering associated with distribution system operation (flows, pressures, temperatures), isolation and start up.
Perform utility project engineering work from concept initiation to implementation completion in accordance with University standards and practices.
Troubleshoot energy system abnormalities and failures, partner with campus building operations staff to identify root cause heating and/or cooling deficiencies.
Provide design quality reviews of new campus building mechanical systems / equipment.
Support energy consumption metering technologies and applications.
Maintain and update utility system design and construction standards, along with distribution system hydronic models.
