The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a Research Associate I/Diagnostic Associate to work in the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL). This diagnostic associate position is responsible for assisting faculty, particularly the diagnostic pathologists, graduate students, and toxicologists in the processes and procedures for sampling, testing, and case management for accurate diagnosis of diseases in all animal species.
Responsibilities include performance of duties necessary to complete the diagnostic and research project oriented casework presented to the VDL pathology section, frequent communications with ancillary internal VDL and external laboratories, interaction with clientele, animal handling and maintenance of the necropsy floor, unloading docks, and animal holding areas. The casework includes collection and processing of diagnostic samples utilized in research projects, as well as, USDA foreign animal disease surveillance programs.
This position also is responsible for the coordination, management, indirect supervision and training of personnel who contribute to BSL-3 capable Biosecurity Addition (BSA) processes and procedures, and utilization and maintenance of facilities and equipment within the pathology areas of the BSA. A component of the responsibilities of this position also involves instruction of VM4 professional students, graduate students, and visiting scientists in the basic tenets of diagnostic laboratory medicine including euthanasia methods, necropsy techniques, sample selection, and routine VDL procedures.
The successful candidate must be able to lift and/or move up to 60 lbs on a routine basis and routinely handle dead animals, animal tissues, blood, fecal material, and other biological materials in an environment with frequent unpleasant odors. The incumbent must be able to quickly learn and adapt to changing work processes and requirements as necessary to accommodate the inherent variation associated with diagnostic investigations; must be able to maintain focus and pay close attention to detail; have the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks; have strong interpersonal, decision making, problem solving and communication skills; be self-motivated and self-disciplined to carry out various responsibilities in a sometimes stressful environment; and have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
The VDL is engaged daily in missions of service, instruction, and research. Daily case work processed by this laboratory includes approximately 50,000 field cases per year submitted by veterinarians and animal owners from Iowa and surrounding states, as well as, research samples from both the University and private sectors. There are currently 150 students in each class in the veterinary medicine professional curriculum, of which 70% will receive instruction through the VDL yearly. The VDL has over 20 faculty engaged in service, teaching, and research. Bachelor''s degree in a biological science or closely related field and work experience that provides exposure to the practice of veterinary medicine or a food-producing animal industry.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
