Geneticist (Plants)

Degree:
Genetics; or one of the basic biological sciences that included at least 9 semester hours in genetics. Evaluation of Education:
Courses dealing with genetics, some phase of genetics, or specific techniques that are applied in genetics work are acceptable. This includes courses in genetics, plant or animal genetics, molecular and cellular biology, mathematics and statistics (as they apply to genetics), population dynamics, and certain techniques such as those dealing with irradiation. OR Coursework consisting of an appropriate combination of basic courses in genetics and cytology or statistics are also acceptable. AND GS-12 Specialized
Experience:
Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. The specialized experience requirements for this position are:
Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience writing or interpreting manuscripts on plant genetics research; experience analyzing and interpreting plant genetics research data to ensure its validity and accuracy; experience co-authoring peer reviewed articles focused on plant genetics research; AND experience collaborating in team research projects with other plant genetics oriented organizations. GS-13 Specialized
Experience:
Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. The specialized experience requirements for this position are:
Qualifying experience for GS-13 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-12 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience writing or interpreting manuscripts on plant genetics research; experience analyzing and interpreting plant genetics research data to ensure its validity and accuracy; experience as a first- or senior author on peer reviewed articles focused on plant genetics research; experience collaborating in team research projects with other plant genetics oriented organizations; AND developing and conducting presentations focused on plant genetics at national and international conferences. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
